Well, start off with black and white still lives. Set up some stuff on a table or whatever, shine a light on it and let'er rip. Contrary to what some people in your forum post said you should use a lot of paint and really push it into the canvas/surface. Keep a rag or old shirt handy to wipe your brushes off. If you're gonna get into painting you have to pretend it's not expensive.

Maybe ask me some more specific questions?
